The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, has held an awards ceremony dubbed ‘KNUST Staff Appreciation Day’ to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of its staff. The event held under the theme, “Celebrating Creativity, Innovation and Long Meritorious Service” took place at the Great Hall, on 12th December 2023.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, speaking on the purpose of the event, stated that the programme was set to recognise the relentless dedication of staff of the University. She further stated that the event is designed to appreciate staff for their sacrifices, commitment and hard work highlighting their pivotal role in the success of the University. She urged all staff to draw inspiration from their colleagues' achievements and continue to contribute passionately to the University's advancement. “KNUST recognises all that you have contributed to bring the University to where it is today. We thank you so much and we pray that the good Lord continue to give you long life and good health. Management appreciates all unsung heroes who have contributed to the growth of the University,” she remarked.
The awards ceremony featured three distinct categories: Long Meritorious Service Awards (for staff who have worked at the University for 40-44 years, 30-39 years, and 20-29 years), Creativity and Innovation Awards (for staff who have used innovation in their various fields to impact humanity), and Special Awards (for staff nominated by their Colleges, Units and Department for special recognition due to their outstanding contributions).
At the end of the KNUST Staff Appreciation Day, a total of one hundred and forty (140) retired staff received citations and cash prizes, for their long and meritorious services. Additionally, eleven staff were recognised for their outstanding contributions in creativity and innovation, while seven received special awards.

Expressing appreciation on his own behalf and the other awardees, Dr. Emmanuel Ahene, a lecturer at the Department of Computer Science at the College of Science of the University, expressed profound gratitude to the University Management for dedicating a day to honour their collective efforts toward the growth and prosperity of KNUST.
